Wine in Slovenia

Did you know the the number of wineries is almost the same as the number of hectares of wine grapes in Slovenia. Around 28 000 producers are taking care of 22 000 hectares. One hectar is just 100 times 100 m which is quite a small plantation and many wineries are that small so Slovenia is for sure unique on that point. That is also explaining why it’s so hard to find Slovenian wines abroad, because they are all sold domestically.

Think of the mountains in Austria and the soft green fields in Italy, Slovenia has a variety in the climate which gives opportunities to many different wine. The modern wine history is relative short for Slovenia and all the developmenmt toom place during the last 40 years or so. Watch my reel from Slovenia to get some more feeling of the landscapes.
